Meet Bob Usry

Bob Usry is the owner of Bob Usry and Sons, Inc., and has been self-employed for 52 years. He is a lifelong resident of Norman, Oklahoma, with the exception of the two years he spent in the Navy. He served in the United States Navy from 1968-1970 and he served his time during the Vietnam Crisis on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard.

He earned the Vietnam service medal, National Defense
medal, Expeditionary medal, and a medal from the Republic of Vietnam during his time in
the Navy. He celebrated his 56th Anniversary this past December with his wife, Ellen. He
has two sons, Bobby and Jaime, two grandsons, Jake and Sam, and two granddaughters,
Annie and Lainey.


Bob’s hobbies are music, ministering to others, working in the yard, riding around in
Genny, his 1947 Ford Convertible, and doing things with his grandchildren. In the past,
he played in many country and rock and roll bands and now sings anytime he has a
chance. He obtained a Second-Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2006.


He has been a member of Cross Pointe Church in Norman since 1987 and serves as Care
Pastor. He has taught an adult Sunday School Class for 35 years. He has a passion for
mission work and has gone on 13 mission trips to Cote D’Ivoire, West Africa. In 2008,
Bob became an ordained minister through his church which allows him to marry and
baptize people from all walks of life. Bob served on the Fostering Futures Board, a
non-profit agency helping foster children, and has always been a big part of the
Secret Santa Program.

He served on the Oklahoma Electric Cooperative Operation (OEC)
Round-up Board for 11 ½  years before becoming a Trustee the OEC Board of Directors.
He serves currently as President of the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Association
of Electric Cooperatives. He chaired the United Way Campaign in 1998, was President of
the United Way Board in 2004-2005; and for several years chaired Engage (formerly For
Real), a youth leadership program sponsored by the United Way. He is past president of the
Norman Sooner Rotary Club. He has been District Chair and Camp Director of the Rotary
Youth Leadership Awards Camp since its inception (31 years ago). He is an active
supporter of Norman Public Schools and Norman Regional Hospital.
